“Reverie” follows a little girl’s journey into her imagination after finding a music box in the woods. As the first notes from the music box begin to play, her black-and-white world is filled with color and she is joined in her imagination by the music box ballerina. The ballerina then turns into a bluebird with water wings and they fly together through the sky. Something interrupts their flight and brings the girl back to reality, but she does not forget to bring the music box home with her.
“Reverie” is an animated short created with 2D hand-drawn digital animation and paired with a fanciful music score by Joe Maloney. It is named for its exploration of imagination and its use of music which evokes wonder and curiosity. This short explores the idea of play and imagination. As we grow, we often forget what it was like when the world was new to us - when imagination blended frequently with reality. Through my animation, I aim to remind the viewer what it was like to see the world through the eyes of a child and encourage them to embrace their own inner child.
